Visited my local gun shop for an optics upgrade before hunting season and saw this piece in the display case.

I've never seen a snub nose Python before. All indications show that the gun has never been apart and therefore the original barrel.

Is a 2 1/2" version a unicorn?

Not as common as other barrel lengths but definitely not a “unicorn”

The 3" Python is more of the unicorn. I saw some numbers for 2 1/2 that represented 8 to 10% of total Python production.
The 2 1/2" is on my want list. I missed one here on the forum yesterday.

That was a real bargain on the shorty Python. They go for more like $4K in my area.

You should be arrested for felony theft for the deal you got on that Python! In my area that would be a $3200-$3500 at the very minimum.

I've been doing business with this dealer for years ... decades.
We were hunting buddies and family friends. No doubt he gave me a sweet deal.
But I always get a reasonable deal from him and the reason I keep going back.

Expensive? yes ... but I've never been hurt with a high end firearm.

About 25 years ago, I used to do a lot of trading with my chiropractor, and I acquired two of the Python snubs from him in two different trades, about a year apart.....as I recall, value of trades about 450.00 ea..😊

Only way to know w/o box ,is with Colt letter.

I very much appreciate all the validation. I'm no expert and subsequently have made a lot of mistakes.
But, on the surface, this certainly seemed legit.

I submitted for a letter and hope to have the results soon.

The other threads concerning researching these firearms, has me curious and wondering if I might get some insight ahead of the letter.

A cursory inspection revealed no other stamped markings.
Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated ... especially the significance of the "F F" below the serial number.
