Great caliber that I'm glad I finally stumbled into, although I wish I had many years ago.

Those sure are some purdy guns you've shown.

Thanks Pard!

My first Colt and a Winchester were in this caliber. I still have them. Family heirlooms. But in the '50s and well into the '90s ammo was hard to find and still not common today. I load my own now, but I'd have shot the guns I have a lot more if ammo would have been easier to find.

When I finally started buying 1st gen guns in 38wcf, all were well used for the most part. In addition the caliber wasn't considered very valuable so the guns would sell at substantial discounts. Wasn't long ago that the prices finally started catching up to 44s and 45s. Funny really, from what I saw buying 1st gens, as the 32wcf actually gained sooner than the 38wcf.

I just recently got a 38 WCF SAA and reload for it - great stuff. I wish I had started sooner.

Lever Acton Bill made it look and shoot like new.

Also have a companion made in 1996. LAB color cased the hammer (after this picture was taken).

Also have an early Marlin 94 and 73 Winchester in 38WCF.

Seems like the 38 .40 club, is like the .44 special club used to be back in Skeeter days- nice Colts Guys!

"Buy a 38 .40 it hits hard"- Advice from a Texas Ranger in a old book. Seems like a 200 grain bullet would make for fast follow up shots Jim Martin recommended that iirc. Might be the reason it was so popular back in the day?

But nowadays ammo is tuff to find if you did not buy in early.

Is that two Cozmo's in the photo?

Highly Dangerel lol

Naw. Not Cozmo. That guy is Brazen. ;) Don't worry Perry! I see them all, every day, and still have a hard time keeping track of who, is who🤣

The .38 WCF is a favorite. Two of mine. A 1902 shipped to Simmons and a 1906 shipped to Janney, Semple, Hill & Company of Minneapolis.
I would fancy a Bisley in .38 WCF if I found the right one.

I have 3 first Gen .38-40s. The two on the right are 1904 5 1/2” and 1926 7 1/2”. One went to St. Louis and the other to Salt LakeCity. Please ignore the nickeled PC .44-40. The Bisley was factory refinished and I don’t remember where it was shipped. I also have four Winchester.38-40s and five 3rd gens. It rivals .44-40 in my affections.

Colt SAA in .38-40 belonging to one armed U.S. Marshal Edward Walker Johnson. While riding for Judge Parker he lost his right arm in a shootout to a Winchester ball. Shot his assailant through the heart according to the autopsy. The gun post-dates the shootout and would have been carried while he was a Deputy Sheriff. Directly from the family along with family photos. Note the left handed factory ivories.

The more I see the pearl grips, the more I like them. I also like what I assume are bison bone grips on MLV's revolver.

I am surprised Cozmo doesn't have any grips like that. They remind me of appaloosas!

For many years, I didn't even slow down when seeing guns with pearl. The last few, I've snatched up a couple and wish I grabbed many more. Weird how that works...
