2020 3 inch python off center bores

5390 Views 76 Replies 36 Participants Last post by  Snake Bit
I was going to buy a new 3 inch python and have examined two at two different gun stores. in Both examples the bore was significantly off center when viewed as the gun is pointing at you! My 4 and 6 inch are fine. Anybody else notice this on their gun Or one they examined. What the hell is going on?

"it keeps getting worse and worse"
A quote by Homer Simpson.
My guess is your not going to buy a 3". Odd numbers just never pan out.

You have any photos of that? If you’re going to throw a bomb in the threads, you ought to bring receipts.

There is a pattern of defending issues with the new Python that starts with attacking the messenger. Yes, I would like to see photos, but I also realize it may not have been possible for a variety of reasons. The OP observed this phenomenon and was simply looking for inputs. I am now curious if others who have a new Python 3” noted the bore off center. This also begs the question, if the bore is off center, will Colt see this as an issue and replace the barrel? Or will they take the position it does not effect the functionality.

I might can take a pic at my local Shop. But I am not throwing bombs just stating what saw. I own 2 that are fine(4 and 6) as well as an old one. I take it no responders yet have noticed this on the 3 inch. Please go look at some and let me know. I hope it is just a bad batch as I want one.

'Bad Batch' - are we talking guns, cookies, a good bourbon...H*ll why not all three...yeah that works or...a possible 'QC' oversight in one production run.

There is also a pattern of holding people accountable for their statements on this forum. If the statement is supported by evidence or facts that is a different matter- neither has applied so far here, including the name(s) of the shop(s), photos of the supposed issue, or any other facts.

One of my co-workers has a new unfluted cylinder S&W 686 (the one with a wood grip that reads 3 5 7) and the barrel is really wonky. He lives with it, but it would drive me nuts.

yea buddy . I am just making all this up to get a reaction. I take it you have not seen one so great. A batch is a group of something made about the same time. Most could figure that out.

I made no comment about your use of the term “batch”. Since I do not know you, or your reputation, I think it is appropriate and reasonable to ask for receipts regarding your contention. So, rather than a snarky reply, please provide more details about it.

My 3" Python looks fine....no wait, I think I see a scratch on the crown...OH NO! What am I going to do? I guess I'll have to tape over all the bulls-eyes i shot with that gun. That scratch ruins everything. :(

Hmm I can't tell if that's just parallax error in that picture, but you would think that these things would be almost impossible today. We all sometimes dislike the results of a completely machine-built gun, but "off centered bores" should be one thing that could never happen in the automated, computer controlled age!
