I have this old 25 auto pistol that has no name on it at all. It does have a serial number that is clear and crisp. I have been told that it is a Colt that has had the markings polished off.

The thing about it is that the trigger is different that I have ever seen on a Colt vest pocket gun. If you look closely at the picture, you will see that the back side of the trigger is cut away. Have you ever seen this on a Colt? Thanks

Boy, that is one butchered pistol! I wonder why anyone would do that?

It occurs to me that this pistol could be one of the cheap Spanish copies of a Colt, which may explain the trigger configuration.

If it is a Colt, I could speculate that if the pistol slide were badly rusted, all markings could be ground off in removal of the rust. Why would not the frame have suffered the same condition? Nor does that explain the trigger. You could cut off part of the trigger to create a trigger as shown, but why?

Does it have the magazine safety? How is the magazine marked? Do the internals look like those found in a Colt? Have you compared it side by side with a Colt? I kind of suspect it is not really a Colt, but cannot tell without looking at it.

The magazine is an after market magazine and all it says in 25 Colt on the bottom. It does not have a magazine disconnect. It has a grip safety that does not work properly and the safety on the frame is one for the Colt. I have disassembled it and it seems to match the scematics of a colt. I have not compared it side by side with a Colt, but I have taken a micrometer to it, and it the markings were all polished off, they did a good job of keeping the sides parallel, it is within .002" all over. ???

FYI-

Slide width on my M1908 is 0.688-0.691". The safety lever on yours does not look exactly like what is on my pistol. The trigger, safety, and grip safety should be case coloured. I do not see the VP inside the triangle (proof) and inspectors mark on the front of the triggerguard on your pistol. It could just be the picture, but it sure looks like there is some rounding (dubbing) of the edges of the frame. Also, the back of the slide does not exactly line up with the back of the frame.

I do not know with certainty what to make of this. I do not think that you have a complete Spanish knock-off of a Colt: the pistol in the picture doesn't look at all like a "Ruby" class pistol, or like anything produced by Star, Llama, or Astra. I suspect a "butchered" Colt.

Bob, I got it out again and when measured over the slide, it runs .682 to .684. When measured over the serrations on the slide, it comes to about .670. The frame measures .545 to .550 all over.

This is what got me to wondering if this was a Colt with the stampings polished off. It does not seem to me that .005" would do that. After all, that's only about .0025 per side.

I note that the slide comes to rest abour .010" ahead of the frame also, but I had here-to-fore disregarded that.

There is a little bitty 5 stamped on the trigger guard behind the trigger.

The gun does look a little sharper in person that the photo. I am not a very good photographer and it looks like I had a little oil on my hands when I laid the gun down. )
