Have been wanting to ask this question for some time as ive noticed differences with the tones/ sheen on the barrels and cylinders of my two 2nd generation SAAs. One is a 1960 production while the other is a 68. The 1968 Colt wears Stag grips.
The barrel AND cylinder of my 1960 SAA shows to have more of a matching blue toned finish with high polish versus the 1968 where the cylinder has a high polish black blue & the barrel more of a black matted blue. Both of my colts are matching cylinder’s & original barrels. Were late 60s 2nd gens all like this? Different than early 2nd gens?
Can someone please tell me when colt changed up their bluing technique, perhaps a timeline?
I have seen other SAAs close to the same year of manufacture as mine but having different tone/ polish finishes.. I think the finish on the 1960 SAA looks outstanding & am very proud to own it. Its one of two guns i do not shoot for obvious reasons. It reminds me much of a 1st gen.
