The .38 PP was chambered for the Colt .38 New Police or .38 Colt Police Positive.

Your bread and butter round that is available today, which is the equivalent, is the .38 S&W. The New Police was the same load with a flat point bullet. While Remington was still loading .38 Short Colt about ten years ago, they were not recommended by Colt, even though they will chamber. I don't know if .38 Long Colt would chamber (without opening a 60 year old box), but they weren't listed as a load for the PP by Colt, either.

So get some .38 S&W and enjoy. These are real pussycats to shoot.

Going to pick up a little PP in 38 S&W friday morning. It seems pretty tight and finish is so-so. Not a cherry but not too bad either.
Am interested in shooting. I know 38 SPECIALS are out. What about 38 Colt? Me, I dunno much about these old calibers.
What is best load for this old girl. Might leave it loaded for wife's bedside gun but other than that I'd pop occasional rounds at cans or slow rabbits. SUGGESTIONS?
