\'51 Navy -Navy--issued to the marines?

I have a Colt Navy with an iron backstrap and iron trigger guard. I recently acquired a copy of Swazie's "51 Colt Navies. Swazie indicates that the colt is a late model Navy Navy. It is all matching including the wedge with a serial number 916xx. It has a small US on the left side of the frame under Colts Patent. It has a Hartford barrel address. No inspectors marks on the metal or the grips which I'm pretty sure are original because there are a couple of nail head marks on the metal butt which extend to the wood. Overall the revolver is fine with traces of blue and a good cylinder scene. I like to think these revolvers might have been issued to the Marines.
