I'm rereading Jim Gillett's book about his exploits in the Rangers in the mid 1870's. He started out with a Colt .45 and .50 Sharps carbine then bought a Wincester '73 carbine 44-40 and shot everything with it from indians to buffalo. He had a great gun collection and his Henry was for sale recently in the link below. He wrote of shooting a camanche with his carbine and kept the "old Winchester" the indian was shooting at him. I wonder if it was this Henry.

I've been meaning to get that book for some time now. Thanks Wyatt for reminding me! Another one I'd recommend is "A Vacuero Of The Brush Country-The life and times of John D. Young" by John D. Young and J. Frank Dobie. Also, "Captain L.H. McNelly, Texas Ranger" by Chuck Parsons & Marianne E. Hall Little.

Great Book

I've always felt that Chapter IX, Sam Bass and His Train Robber Gang, would make a great foundation for a screen play, as written.
