They may well have used Private Purchase hand Guns, of whatever choice they liked.
And or ditto with Rifles, and the Hand Guns being secondary anyway.
I s'pose you could contact Maine's Fish & Game, and see if they have a Museum who's curator(s) might know? Or maybe if they have no Museum, they may have a Historian for their Department who would know.
