Are you sure it's Nickel & not Bright polished Stainless ?
What style box ? What color would be easier ? Does the end label match the gun ?
Is there an end label ?
No Nickel pythons came from the factory with rubbers as far as I can remember.
Do the rubbers have any colt markings ?
Or, are they just run of the mill rubber grips ?
They would have Colt markings somehwere if they were factory Colt products.

I agree with Jeff, as I never saw any either, yes, some of the "off" models "Troopers" ,etc , they were available in an 'electroless 'nickel and they did come with the Colt rubber grips.
Too many people see the "bright" (glossy) stainless and they "think" nickel cause they are THAT shiny, but usually end up being stainless and yes, a 'magnet ' will stick to gun alloy stainless steels, so that is NOT a "test".......
So as said above, short of the "correct" end label still being on the box or a "call" to the factory for the 'info' or even the "factory" letter, it is anyones guess.
I am seeing more and more guns popping up at shows , that are being 'plated' down south and /or are "polished" stainless, it's hard to tell.

For anything after 1985 you need to call Colt. They will only tell you the year of production over the phone. For any other information you need to write to the Colt historian.

Other Colt firearms up to 1978 can be found here:

No, they look a lot alike but are different, can always tell by the inside of the panels and if the cut out (ledge) at the top is "flat" or is rounded,on the 'back side'. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
