Adobe Walls bullet from Chaffee

Chaffee sent me this bullet some time back that's from Adobe Walls. If he sees this I'll let him explain how he got it since I forgot what he told me. The 45-70 and 45-90 brass is unrelated to it. Gun is a .45-70 Shiloh #3 half octagon tapered.

Very cool! DNA testing would most certainly be interesting, if that was still possible. It might have missed its mark, or been a through and through. Who knows?

Hey there Matt;

That looks like a bullet that's skidded off a fairly soft surface like grass or something similar. Perhaps Thadd knows more about that aspect of that bullet.

Interesting though, and a really nice rifle too Matt.

All the best my friend.

I have about 20-30 bullets and brass from the area. Gathered by a local rancher on private property in the 30's to 50's around the Adobe Walls site. That's about all i know.

If I have the gumption, I'll take a photo of all the ones I have...if anyone cares to see.
