Hi,

I am new to this forum. I have a 4" Python in Colt Royal Blue. The serial number is 74565 N. Is there any way I can find the age or year of manufacture of my gun?

Thanks,

I would have to say 1978. In 1978 they started with 01001N and there are no N serial numbers in 1979 so it is unknown how high the N serial numbers went to. I'd say 1978, but you could check with Colt to verify that.

Dick,

At lunch today I called COLT and you were right on the money. It was made in 1978 and COLT ended the N serials in 1979. Thank you very much.

I waited many years to get a Python and I am not sure why, but I like the idea that it was made the year I left active duty. (Maybe I am perverse?)

After having it Royal Blued by Colt and the trigger pull adjusted as low as possible within specs, I just ordered a set of Herrett grips to finish it.

Best wishes,

Joe O'Rourke

Were are my manners, WELCOME to the forum.

After putting your Python together the way you like it, I am sure will have many years of enjoyment with a very fine Colt. Enjoy.
