I have big hands and ever since I bought my 1958 2nd gen, I have been searching for ways to get a better grip on the gun without having to tuck my pinky under the grips.
I looked at extended wood grips but the shape always flared out too much at the bottom, compromising a comfortable hold. They felt bulky in the hand.
Then, I investigated 1860 Army back straps and trigger guards, but the only options were Pietta and a few other aftermarket brands, not entirely plug and play when bolting up to the 2nd gen frame.
Until I stumbled on a curious gun, the 1960 New Model Army by Centennial arms. Made in Belgium and supposedly as a reissue under Colt Brevete licensing and production. I happened to find a backstrap, trigger guard, main spring and 1pc grips on gool ol' eBay for about $100 shipped and these parts bolt right up with zero effort, using the screws from my 2nd gen.
The brass trigger guard is getting the brass black treatment right now, so ill post pics once it is all finished.
