Vikrant is the Fake Colt Box. All his stuff is fake garbage andd he has all these + feedbacks because people who don't know think that the stuff is real and he is wonderful. He is now up to selling fake Colt Grips.I called him on what exactly was wrong with what he was presenting and he said he had them "made" by the "Same Companies that Colt used".In his mind that make them original...........Mike

Back when he started, we exchanged several e-mail about boxes and grips he had for sale, and he finally admitted to me they were reproductions. The only thing changed since that admission is that he increased his prices.

My Initial contention was if you are selling Repro boxes identify them as such. There are a whole mess of people I know that would like those to compliment thier storage displays and they would happily buy them at a reasonable price. When the seller is dishonest trying to pass them as original that is where the trouble begins. The latest scam is having a Python reblued and returned to factory specs at Colt, buy the fake box, papers, and hang tag and viola you have a NIB Colt Python.Sad thing is the majority of buyers don't do thier homework, fall for the scam, and are to ignorant to know they have been had.As far as Dennis goes, you see his name RUN LIKE HELL....He ought to be very careful because he may scam the wrong buyer one day and pay for it bigtime.

Thanks For Posting This!

Ohiobuckeye, is this fake box as poor a facsimile as his other boxes? Of course the new appearance is a clear indication it is a reproduction, but are there other obvious characteristics that tell us it is a fake? I don't have any genuine Colt boxes, or photos of Colt boxes this old, and therefore have nothing to compare it with.

Thanks for posting this. Here are the photos of the box in question... these will survive beyond the Gun Broker listing:

A thread on "How to spot the fake boxes" with a sticky was not done because Colt Forum did not want a easily accessible reference for the reproducers to find out the "tip offs' and improve thier junk using our knowledge.Just use the advanced search feature and it will direct you to the material you seek as it has been extensively covered before.I never understood the facination with cardboard.I do have a original Colt Detective Special Box.One day I was at a gun store that I recommend in my Pistol Safety Classes and said to the owner that I couldn't believe how much money people are paying for D.S. boxes. He went to the back and came out with a D.S. box and said,"Like this one?" and handed it to me.I immeadiately asked him how much and he said "You have helped me with so many pistol and revolver sales it is the least I can do." That day I had some unused Karma points.

Some are better. I bit on one of his first wood grain/foam insert boxes and as soon as I opened the package, the "sumpin ain't right" light bulb came on. Many, probably most, buyers would never know the difference unless they took the time to compare them, in detail, to the real thing. My gun show buddies can't tell them from the real thing, but they collect the off brand stuff....Ruger, etc....:) I guess it mostly depends on each persons degree of experience and attention to detail.
I believe it was CruiserRN that gave the best initial clue to look for...If it looks brand new, be suspicious.....It's very rare to find 30-70 year old cardboard that looks brand new.

I'd love to have one of his fake boxes for my 1956 SAA just for display purposes, but at $275.00 it's a non starter.

Guys there is a honest reproduction box maker on Ebay who does make a quality product but is very up front in disclosing that his products are not original and will include one small variation from the real McCoy so that they are not used in the poliferation of resurected NIB PYTHONS.His prices are preety reasonable..And yes it was me who said the biggest tip off to a fake is the JDLR Principle....Just Doesn't Look Right. If a Box is supposedly 70 years old it will not look like a newborn comming home from the hospital. I will look for a link....Mike
