My 1978 Trooper III looks amazing, but when I take the grips off the grip frame (ONLY) looks like it has a thick coating of blueing as if it's been re-blued. All the stampings are clear and sharp otherwise. Is this normal?
12/9/13.... These are as good of pictures as I could get. Does it look normal? Thank you. Metal Tool

I'm not sure what you mean by thick, as bluing isn't like an actual coating of anything. The only thing I can think of is maybe the gun finish is wore and when you take the grips off, the protected area that the grips covered looks in newer condition.

I'm sure others can give you a better explanation, but you will first get told that this thread is useless without Pictures!
Thanks bsmalley, pictures added.
Looks normal to me.
Colt didn't polish the grip frame area since it would be covered by the grips.

Thanks dfariswheel. When you say "didn't polish the grip frame area " are you refering to the machining marks? I know it's hard to tell with the pictures, but over the grip frame machine marks the bluing appears thick and is very glossy.
No big deal, just wondering is they're all like that.
The pictures don't really convey what you are referring to, but everything looks fine to me also. I wouldn't worry about anything being out of the ordinary.
Ok thanks, I feel better now:cool:
You look better with proper stocks:
