Yep. Jim Rockford. Great series early on especially. He kept his Detective Special hidden in his cookie jar!
Always loved that bit - anyone else catch them reference Ryan Gosling's character doing the same thing in 'The Nice Guys' a few years back, set during the same era 'Rockford...' was on? It was a S&W in the movie IIRC but I still thought the 'in-joke' was kinda a nice nod to old Jim Rockford. :)

He always drove the car and did his own stunts. He was a great driver. Later in the series, he limped all the time because his knees were bad from so many injuries. Whenever he ran, you could see him limping and protecting one bad knee. Neat actor!

This is why I love Detective Specials and have bought a bunch over the last 45 years. I still carry one at times. Love Colt Pythons, Diamondbacks and Detective Specials.

Aside from wielding the pistol he'd have taken from the various-nefarious...🤫 my only real memory of his own gun is when it went from cookie-jar to 1970's leisure-slacks waistband... and back.😄

If I had it to do all over again that would be me, trailer by beach, gold Firebird, 200 dollars a day plus expenses (adjusted for inflation of course)
One of the writing gems of the series was the oft-quoted rate and then his expenses and the continual commentary on money and costs. It added a generally under appreciated realism to the series.

Luv them J Turns

That ROCKS!(y)
I went to a school while in the Army where among the various driving techniques - this was well taught. One day, we're picking up our cars and a fella on my Team gets his and straps a boom-box (dates the story, no?😁) in the passenger seat with the seat belt.

When he rolls past us, comes back - hammers a J turn, jams a block and drifts around the corner... he has Rockford's theme on "11".

High cheers all 'round. He was a character.

Let's not forget his good buddy Angel
Had to do my first angry-face thing for this one.😃

I absolutely HATED that guy after the first couple of episodes when he had a real job at the newspaper.

I was forever wishing that Jim or Rocky would take him on a one-way trip to the pier.🔪 What a loathsome character.🤢 Couldn't stand him as a kid watching the show and find him even more odious as an adult - to the point of not watching episodes where he's present. He's like every character of Seinfeld rolled into one.... but not even remotely funny.
And, keep yer damn kids offa my lawn!👇😉

On the other hand, I liked Angel Martin's character, and he was always a treat to watch on the Rockford Files. He was unique and Stuart Margolon played the part well. I also enjoyed the character Beth Davenport: Rockford's sometimes girlfriend and full-time attorney played by Gretchen Corbett.

As a teenager enthralled with cars and racing in the 60s, I enjoyed it. It might be considered kind of campy in today's climate. I might see if I can stream it sometime this week.
