I think that'd be a fun rifle to shoot broknax, but it would be hard on the ol' pocket book up here in the Great White North of Canada.

Here's a link to a box of .45-70 ammo by Hornady: http://www.bullseyelondon.com/horna...lex-tip-expanding-1-box-20-rounds-canada.html

At $52.99 for a box of 20 cartridges, plus 13% Tax, it comes to $59.88 which works out to. a whopping $2.99CDN per round. Now THAT's expensive shooting for the AR platform.

Here's one that will give a bit more bang for your buck!! Of course it will cost about a buck a round to shoot!! LOL

Not to mention that you can't just take a box of .45-70 off the shelf and use it. This gun uses a modified .45-70 cartridge that is rimless. You have to get special brass and load your own right now. And if the ammo does become factory available, it will probably cost even more than standard .45-70 ammo.

I am taking the poorman’s approach.....I have a Colt m4 lower that I picked up at Brownells for 200 bucks and then ordered the Alexander .50 Beowulf upper around 800 with 6 mags and 200 rounds for a few hundred more. So for around a grand I will have a big bore AR platform. Now it is just waiting on the upper to be made and shipped in the next couple weeks.

It appears to be a fine solution to a non-existent problem.
My thoughts exactly.
For the cost of one AR in 45-70, I can buy two Winchester (USRAC) Model 86 rifles and have enough money left over to buy a bunch of factory ammo.

I read about this on another forum. The only thing "45-70" about it is the name of the cartridge. It actually uses a rimless cartridge. As far as I can tell from the pics on the other forums, it is more similar to a beltless 458 American, or 450 Marlin. It might have a rebated rim similar to the 458 SOCOM, but again from the pics I did see, it is hard to tell. Be interesting to run some black powder loads through it though!
