I might just go after this one...

What did they do to the poor thing's finish I wonder? For it to have the 'look' it has?

Poor thing!!
It looks like a wrapped in a towel stored in the cellar gun to me.

Agreed, especially if your project was to discover a way to remove heavy pitting without a heavy metals loss. For this, it would be a great project gun.:D

It's condition makes it a good candidate for a belly gun, you could go with some type of DuraCoat finish.
Left be and merely Carried enough, it would acquire a respectable 'patina'!
It looks like someone Carried it a lot, in a Holster full of Sand! Lol...what a weird effect the poor finish has suffered...

Not Wire Wheel, not Sand Blasted, not Steel Wooled, and not 'Natural' either...

I agree, I would leave it the way it is. That Colt will always get a lot of play from pistol enthusiast. Hell I might now dive in. I like it!

Yes, but if you do 'dive in' then it ain't gunna be no $89.00 Revolver no mo'!

The darned thing will start to look like an 'Auction' then!

Lol...

And if we are both stubborn, it will then close for $1,272.00, amazing the seller, and all bystanders, novice and old timer alike!

Spot on! My curiosity will keep it at bay until the end.
That's what my Big Bore Belly Gun looked like before I did this to it. Basically it been media blasted with aluminum oxide and then heated red hot. then dropped it in dirt ATF. This is a New Service in .455 Webley.

Anyone interested, please do not be shy on my account!

I am having to watch my pennies this month, so, I will not be bidding on this one.

Heck, I have two ( count 'em, "two"! ) .41 Colt, Army Special 'Project Revolvers' already! So, really, I am in good shape on that score I think.

Of course, if anyone here is the lucky Winner, do post a little Thread showing it and sharing it with us!
But for having a mess of other 'project guns' I could fancy sleeving it to .22 RF. OTOH I think I'd go for something not quite so far gone. I've sleeved a couple perc repros to .22 and would like to take on a swing-out. See couple of my projects, a '51 Navy repro & a Remington.

And the Remington - a .36 cal Navy repro

That's an interesting one. I may give this some thought. Might have to buy a new hacksaw blade.
