The "Blue Book Pocket Guide of Colt Dates of Manufacture". It gives dates by serial numbers but the only era it gave a listing for Detective Specials but no serial numbers was the '94-'95 time period. The serial number you gave fits in no other range so that's why I think it's that era but can't say for sure.
I have a couple of mid 90’s detective specials. The serials so get sort of funky.. seen some with Letter prefix of R and then a suffix of R on another gun. I found my manf. Date by calling Colt. I struck out every other way. Customer service will give you the year date of the gun.
Just double checked. I misspoke a little. Both mine are 1994. One prefix of RD and the other suffix of RD.
