What's the best magazine for the buck? I've had Colt, SA, CM, and some cheap GI contract which after tuning was great. I'm inclined that to think Colt magazines are a great value.

Tell me about the dimple on the followers. The magazines for my GM has the dimple. The ones that came with my GCNM does not have the dimple. The ones with the dimples feeds empty cases great in my GM. The ones without the dimple will not reliably feed empty cases in the GCNM. I did not try swapping the magazines since it was late and I was tired.

Would the "Colt" 1911 magazines from Midway USA be the same as the magazines from Colt?

Please educate me on the 1911 magazines.

The dimple in the Colt magazine followers were part of the John Browning design. It gave added lift to the last cartridge out of the magazine.

I believe all the Colt magazines are now contract magazines and have been for some time.

The Colt branded magazines work just fine IMO. The two major contractors are CheckMate IND "C", and Metalform "M".

The Colt magazines from Midway are fine.
I bought two Metalform .38 Super mags from them and one had the Colt marked baseplate, but without the "Rampant Colt," the other was stamped with the Metalform logo.

I'm partial to the Checkmate magazines but have some Metalform I've been using for many years without any issues. The MecGar mags that are similar to the standard pattern seem very good, we have two for the 10mm, and are reasonably priced.

All my magazines are Metalform. Flawless performance round after round, year after year. Never felt the need to change what has always worked as advertised.

CheckMate and Metalform make magazines that are the closest thing to original GI mags except they might have the Colt hybrid feed lips, but Checkmate does market GI type mags with the GI feed lips.
