Hi guys. I just found this forum while researching my B-Day present to myself. I found a beauty of a Det. Special at a local gun show last weekend. It looks brand new and it came with a zippered case and 2 speed loaders. I have wanted one of these for years, but never saw a used one this nice. I paid $330 plus tax and I have a few questions about it. Let me start by saying that it is blued with the barrel shroud and the ser.# is S382XX with a 5 stamped below it. Now for the questions.

1. What generation is it?
2. When was it made?
3. Did I do good on the price?
4. Where can I find an empty original box?

Thank you in advance.

1. It's considered a Third Issue

2. I don't have my books with me but it sounds like a 1979 maybe a 1980.

3. I'd say in the condition you describe, you did pretty darn good.

4. Check e-bay. If you run into trouble finding the right one, I can probably help although I am not in the habit of disposing Colt items I have several extra of what you need. (As long as you are not too fussy and looking for the perfect box.)

5. Welcome to the forum Santino!

Yes. Box size your gun most likely came in was 10 1/2" X 6 1/2" X 2 3/4".

Although Colt used whatever size box they had close at hand.
