Firearm Gun Revolver Trigger Gun accessory

I'm considering a trade for this gun, and am asking the more educated to offer an approximate value. I don't know the manufactured date yet, but the following is the description that I have:

38-40 caliber, Bore is clean, functions 100% Small
chip in the front of the right grip panel. I know the entire history of
ownership on this gun from shipping @ Colt to date.

Thank you.

Bisley value opinions can vary quite a bit from what I've seen in Colt forum posts. If all serials are matching, all original, I'd say you're gonna get a large range from about $1800 to $3200 on price. I'd lean somewhere around the $2400 to $2600 since it's a tad pale in the bluing department. That's just what I would pay. Guarantee some will say much lower and a few might say more. Bisley's. They either love them or hate them.

I have one in same caliber and appears to be similar finish challenged condition except grips are not chipped. I know local prices have little in common with American prices but this one set me back about mid $2000's if that helps.

If I was buying--$1200 to $1450. SELLING----$1650 to $1850. Bisley's just do not bring the kind of money that the Peacemaker's do. I just woiuldn't want to get any more than about $1300 into the pistol.

I bought a 4 3/4 bisley in the same condition as yours for $1000 at the Louisville show about 2 years ago(a bargain). It didn't have 4 clicks and had to send the hammer and trigger to be repaired for $100, now its correct. While I like 38WCF and it is the second most popular chambering after 32-20, it is less in less demand than 44 WCF or 45 Colt.

Do you think the .38-40 is more desirable than the .45 Colt, .44-40, or .32-20?
Not more desirable maybe, but certainly AS desirable. At least to me - guess we all have our likes and dislikes. I have SAA's in all those calibres, plus a 41.

About 15 minutes ago I received a knock on the door - the postman delivered my latest acqisition - a 38WCF Bisley (sorry mate). I am about to post a couple of pics in a new thread.

Edit: I have re-read the entire thread and now believe I responded a bit hastily to weagle99's first comment on the 38-40. Can now see his post was a genuine answer to the Op's original question on value - a less popular caliber is worth less $$$. Fortunately our repartee was polite and I am sure no offence was intended or taken. Sorry mate. Ross.
