I have a bisley 44-40 that says colt six shooter on the side and has a serial number of 211270. The date we can read says Sept 18 71 and the date below (what we can read is) 72 and then Jan 1975. When was this gun built? Any ideas?
Your gun was built in 1901. Bisleys are numbered in the same serial number range as the Single Action Army Model. Bisleys were produced from 1894-1912,most with fixed sights,a few with target sights. Generally, the 44/40,with the "Frontier Six Shooter" markings you describe are the most deairable. The 3 patent dates actually read;Sept 19,1871,July2,72 and Jan.19 75. Hope this helps. Bud
