Could someone offer a description of the diff in the so called "blackpowder" frame guns and the regular ones. I've seen this used as a distinction in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen SAA guns on a regular basis. Are blackpowder frame guns still offered?

Thanks

Without getting too deep into minor differences, the basic difference is, the black powder frame has a screw in the front of the frame, which retains the cylinder base pin.

On smokeless frames, there is a spring-loaded plunger on the front sides of the frame which retain the base pin.

In the recent past, Colt did make black powder frames, mostly available through the Custom Shop.
