I just finished looking throught some of the items in the Rock Island Auction online catalog for the April 29 auction. I think a number of the forum members collect Wells Fargo items along with their Colt items. If you like Rare and unusual items, RIA Auction lot 1326 is described as a Rare Colt Model 1889 DA revolver with WF & Co markings on the butt.
In fact, the revolver is NOT a Model 1889 as the gun has the Model 1892 style cylinder with short flutes and double set of locking notches as found on the later DA models. Also, the serial number on the butt is of the wrong styling for a five digit serial number. And, if you study the WF&Co marking closely, it appears to have electric engraver markings in the "7" and a couple other numbers and letters. Colt roll marked the WF&Co marking on the butts. There are also other clues but suffice it to say "BUYER BEWARE!" Bob Best
