I have been looking for a base gun for an engraving project down the line and I have stumbled upon a winchester commemorative at not a bad price. Would you be able to use such a gun as a base gun for an engraving project? It isn't a ridiculously good price, but it is better then others I have seen.

Certainly.

That is if it isn't already engraved.

If it's merely plated, then that can be easily removed - but removing commemorative rollmarks will cause the barrel to go out of round or dish the receiver, and may require the replacement of same.

The 125th Anniversary SAA (1961) is often used as the basis for engraving. I have one myself that was done by master engraver Kenny Majors and it is beautiful!
