I recently bought an 1851 Navy that needs new nipples, I found some nipples that are supposed to fit the original Navies. The problem is getting the old ones loose. Any tips?

Go to Dixie Gun Works web site, buy a good nipple wrench.
Soak the nipple area of the cylinder with / in Kroil for a few days.
Use the nipple wrench, carefully, to remove the old ones.
Clean the area after removing the nipples.

When installing the new nipples, grease the threads with some shotgun choke lube before installation.

The most common nipple wrench you will find is the "L" shaped one. For displaying in a case and "authenticity", this would be your choice. However, for serious work a hardened "T" shaped is best.
