Class III M-16 vs AR-15

Hey buddy, ATF stopped taking Form 1s to make full autos in 1986. Which means you can't just buy a sear and drop it in a rifle that wasn't registered prior to that date A registered sear goes for 7-9 hundred. If your gonna own a MG it has to be made or registered before 86, as I understand it, anyone else? welcome from one newbie to another

In general , fewer of the various types of transferable AR15- marked original Colt factory M16's around for sale , Compared to transferable M16,M16A1, M16A2 marked M16's.However they usually go for less, not more.It's much more complicated than that on a collector basis, though.

And for the second question,A typical nice condition original Colt factory transferable select-fire AR15 or M16 is in the area of 18-21K now.

Wow. It wasn't long ago that you could get a factory original Thompson for that kind of money. What are those going for now, $40K?

Some of the original Colt made Model 1921 Thompson's are going for up around $100,000 for a gun with some history.

While not perfect, this site is better than nothing: Machine Guns - Machine Gun Price Guide Tap around and get some eye opening information. The prices are not 100% correct, but the trend lines are very accurate. Back in 1975, a factory NIB w/all Colt M16A1 was selling for $750. Today a NIB Colt M16A1 would easing bring $20K.

Both guns are original and transferrable originally from a GA police dept.

20-40K. WWII M1's, then WWII 1928's,then Colt 28 and 21's.
