This should be a good reminder for all novice Shooters, that if there is a 'click' and no recoil/report...keep the Muzzle pointed in a safe direction, and, do a very leisurely count to 'Ten' before proceeding to clear the Breech.

If it is a 'Squib' ( ie: a round which had too little Powder for the Bullet to exit the Barrel ) the Bullet will still be in the Barrel, and must be removed before one resumes firing.

If it is a 'Dud' Round, and the Bullet is still in the Cartridge Case, then, one needs to verify this condition before proceeding.

If it is a Hang Fire, it should finish it's conflagration and fire normally, but with some seconds delay - hence, keep the Muzzle pointed in a safe direction for a very leisurely count of 'Ten'.

Hang Fires ( a delay in ignition ) can occur, and, can be a hazard if not managed properly!

Edited to add -

I just did a few 'googles' and am finding that waiting "30 seconds" is recommended any time a failure of ignition is suspected.

Here's one time it may be appropriate to say something like, O M G !

What in the world did he expect to see down that barrel? It also reminds me of the photos we've all seen of people leaning on their loaded long arms with their hands covering the muzzle.

In the case of any cartridge malfunction keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction for a period of at least 30 seconds before assessing the type of malfunction. That fool illustrated why quite nicely and almost gave himself a 12 guage Crainiotomy.

He's shooting cans at what 3 yards with a shotgun? Is He that terrible a shot? Why would He want to waste ammo like that ? And then He looks down the barrel ????
I wondered about the range too. Mabey he was doing his best Ad Topperwien imitation, without the skill, knowledge or common sense....

Either way, this guy is the textbook definition of a fool. And fools are generaly lucky in these instances.

Something is not right about this video. Watch in slow motion the gun suddenly shifts forward right before it goes goes off, to get in line with his hat and not his head. Butt moves toward him moving the muzzle away. Notice the motion blur as the butt shifts, I am thinking this may be a hoax. Or his guardian angel. Also we never see the hat come down.

Might be the initial movement of recoil which shifted the Muzzle just that little bit 'back' form his forehead.

I imagine the Muzzle Blast must have stung some..!

I would have expected the Hat Bill to have been scorched.

No idea if it is a 'hoax' or genuine...but no doubt, people DO such things! Sometimes fatally.

The guy fired two rounds with only a 'click' and no ( initial ) report, where, the first round could have been a 'squib', leaving the wads and Shot and so on, some ways up in the Barrel, where, the second Shot could have bulged or split the Barrel.

So, more than one 'lesson' being shown really...

I have never heard of a hangfire being longer than a click, boom.
I call BS on that video because of the length of time before the gun went off.
Something else was at play to cause what was seen, other than a hangfire.

Anti-gunners may have a field day with this shotgun proficiency demonstration, but didn't we once see pix of Al Gore bent over an M-16 barrel in Vietnam?

There was a shell ejected after each of the two fired rounds, then he racked the slide twice with no shell ejected, and snapped the hammer down both times, before the idiotic barrel "inspection". My Waterbury shows 7-8 seconds from the first hammer "click" to the discharge through the cap visor. Too long for a "hang fire'???? If not a hang fire...a mechanical "hang up"???? Either way, if it was faked, what tripped the trigger?.....with no hands near the action? Perhaps the slight shift of the gun that saved the shooter from his own stupidity was merely the early stage of recoil movement that shifted the muzzle just enough to rescue his microscopic reserves of gray matter.
