Back in the day, Montgomery Ward was almost as big a catalog retailer as Sears & Robuck. I would bet they sold lots of firearms before they folded. The last set of living room furniture we bought was from Montgomery Ward in 1997.

I used to own a reprint of Montgomery Ward‘s 1895 mail-order catalog. The firearms section was sizable and showed a significant number of handguns, not just cheap topbreaks, but standard Colt and S&W models of the day. So this would not be an unusual destination; unfortunately for the further history of the gun, it means that it could have shipped anywhere in the country from there.
