Thinking of selling my 1884 colt. It's serialed 102xxx and is all matching with good bore. The finish is nickel and it looks to have been refinished some time ago. Mechanics are good so I think I will probably sell as a shooter. Any ballpark on what it may be worth?

It's a short barrel and the grips look nice. Not a super sharp refinish but it's black powder and I my gut says $1300 to $1500 if the grips are vintage original.

They have a good look to them....I'm guessing maybe refinished but they appear to fit it well.

The fit is excellent. I just can't say they are original without a doubt. Will list it as I now have 12 posts. If interested before i post pm me. I will probably wait until morning to post it for sale. It's a nice pistol. I just don't shoot the old stuff and I am not into safe queens.

He was talking about the top of the barrel.....a 4-3/4" barrel will have 2 short lines of text on top of the barrel where the 7-1/2" and 5-1/2" have 1 long line of text on them.

The front sight looked good to me so I assumed the barrel was original and hadn't been shortened.

The 3 lines you were referring to is what are called the patent dates on the left side of the frame.

My apologies. There is no text on top of barrel. I imagine it was buffed out when refinished. The pistol is sold.

Don't know if they are original. What is the best way to tell if grips are original? They seem consistent with the finish.
Congrats on selling your gun! For future reference, ONE of the ways to tell is whether there is a locating pin hole drilled thru the lower triggerguard. 1884 was a transition era for one or two piece grips. Another is fit and type of walnut used.
