Hi, first time posting. I recently aquired a Colt Model 1901. The serial number behind the cylinder and on the cylinder release is 2229. It is marked US ARMY No. 62229 on the butt. According to Colt Serial number lookup, seial number 2229 was made in 1892. But it is a model 1901 AND it has a MAR 5, 95 patent date on the barrel, which looks to be original to the gun. I am terribly confused lol.

Also, there is a marking on the grip. C-NY and under it 7-37. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

No confusion there. The full serial is only on the butt, 62229; the gun is a Model 1894 (First Army Contract) made in 1895 and upgraded at Colt to the 1901 specs later. So the ‘95 date on the barrel checks out. The 2229 is used as the assembly number on other parts, as was the practice on military-contract iterations of this model series.

No idea about the grip markings. Something New York? A lot of these were passed down to state guard units and such.
