Thanks for the research Johnny P!! I looked up your initial reply on 153848 from a thread three years back (forgot I had posted here). At that time, your check was “The revolver shown was in the last shipment of 3000 Model 1917 Revolvers shipped February 19, 1919 to the Army Reserve Depot, South Schenectady, New York.” Would this have been a shipment after Springfield Arsenal? Thanks again!

Have no clue as to how I screwed that up, but you are correct that No. 153848 would have been in the 3000 revolver shipment to Army Reserve Depot, South Schenectady, N.Y.

Clawson also notes that there was a special shipment of 2 Colt Model 1917 revolvers on August 23, 1918 with headspace shoulders of .820 and .830. In relation to the problem of headspace of the first Colt revolvers, but considerable time after this had been resolved.

Long time member but new Colt came my way. Its a 1917 with a parkerized finish. The Rampant colt is sadly gone as many are. Frame S/N 266426 Army Property # 114458. Interestingly the right grip was inscribed with the following. Took in Trade for J new Battery M. G. Nelsen 10-31-38 The Left grip has a s/n in pencil but its not readable or incomplete.

A very early one and a very late one.

#1 - colt 150,514 - army 1,573
#2 - colt 304141 - army 153,538

My guess is September 1917 and Feb 1919?

Would there be any info(or worthwhile getting a colt letter on) for the early revolver? Hoping to find out something more than "one of 3000 sent that month" but not expecting it.

Thanks to everyone here, thread was very interesting.
