I was in my local gun shop today and he had an Agent. It was a full strap and had a high gloss finish with the rounded Detective Special type grips on it.Is this gun worth going back to look at?Or is it a Cobra with an Agent barrel on it,,or maybe a refinish?I've never paid much attention to these as I perfer Detectives, and older ones at that.

I don't know for sure but I think the Agents came with a gloss finish, then during the latter stages of their existance they were finished in a flat, dull finish. Go take another look at it.

Early Agents were blued and anodized, later Agents were parkerized and anodized. I believe the difference in frame appearance is mostly the level of polishing. The original grip frames were "full" and rounded but not as long as the DS. The post '66 shortened grip frames were the same length as all D frames from then on. The finish and grip frame changes were not coincident. Here is a recent thread with a variety of info http://www.coltforum.com/forums/showflat...=true#Post39251.
Here is an earlier thread with a picture of a blued one for comparison. http://www.coltforum.com/forums/showflat...=true#Post10949

In it's later issues there really wern't any difference between the agent and the cobra except for the barrel rollmark. I like them both.
