I'm not sure exactly what information you want. It's probably a standard SP1...20" barrel, 1:12" rate of twist, no forward assist, triangular hand guards, most likely a closed birdcage flash suppressor with slots all around the circumference, no finger groove on the pistol grip.

That's about it for standard features.

I am looking for a reliable source of information on the SP1 (R600), mfg 1982 I am pretty sure. Colt SN search wouldn't cough up that info (SP1 64956). I found some info in Wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Colt_AR-15_variants#Numbered_Colt_civilian_models) but since it does not list a source for that info, I'm not sure I want to trust it. All help appreciated.
According to this Retro Black Rifle site (link below) your rifle was made in 1976, in 1976 the serial number started at SP55301 then in 1977 the serial number started at SP67651.

The Retro Black Rifle site link below have plenty of info, pictures of early and late configurations of the SP1 rifle, markings, components, features, etc., click on the Civilian Rifles and Carbines.

The AR15.com thread Colt SP1 Database (2006) is the only record that I have seen that stated your serial number was made in 1977, (I was a member at that site since 2005).

All the other published info even the official AR15.com (links below) and others indicated that your rifle was made in 1976.

For your info the AR15.com thread was only a member survey of SP1 rifle, even the member author of the AR15.com database thread named "Ekie" which was the same contributor to the Retro Black Rifle site, his real name M. Eklund, so in my opinion the AR15.com thread was probably slightly off.

For me the definitive authority of the serial numbers would be the book Black Rifle II (2004) because the author had full access to the factory records, and he also stated production 1976 started S/N SP55301 and 1977 started S/N SP67651.

Instead of relying on conflicting info the best way of any gun manufacturers would be to contact the makers directly, the Colt factory (800) 962-2658 (Mon-Fri 9 am to 5 pm EST).

For collectors and enthusiasts, Colt also have an archive services that they would make an official archive letter (for a fee of around $100 for AR types).
