I couldn't find a photo thread dedicated specifically to the Army Special. I know how popular they are and how much we love them in all calibers and barrel lengths. So, post 'em if ya got 'em!

This one is a nicely patina'ed 1923 in .38 Special caliber.

Terrific. I love the early cased revolvers. The .41 caliber Army Special with the 4" barrel is a very difficult one to find. Thanks for sharing.

A .32-20 manufactured in 1927

Shoots well too!

I notice this 1927 32-20 AS has a smooth non-checkered latch. I have a '27 AS in 32-20 and it also has no checkering on the latch. I found another 1927 AS 32-20 on Gunbroker and again no checkering on the latch. Do yo have any idea what the deal is with this? I thought they went to smooth latches on the Official Police in the 50s but the pre-war AS and OPs were all checkered. What gives?

This Army Special is chambered for the 32-20 round. When I got it, the front sight was almost completely filed off! So, since it needed a new sight, I made one that I liked better than the original. I think this one dates to 1909. Shoots quite well with little recoil!

Buddy of mine picked up this 1911 nickel plated in 38 Special. I've told him they didn't come in 2", but he insists they must have. I think it was cut down. Anyone got a top view of the barrel (last picture) so we can see if there is missing text to answer this.

You are correct, it has been cut down and re-plated.

I've had this one for a while. It dates to 1911 and is chambered in 41 Colt with 4.5" barrel. It had a set of Pointer Mother of Pearl grips when I received it. They looked great but I wanted to put some period correct grips on it. Thanks to 73shovel for the help, they look great!

Recently purchased this Army Special in .38 spcl from my local Cabelas. It dates to 1922 and was one of a pair for sale in the same store with close, but not consecutive serial #s. I attempted to barter for the other with no dice. Both have "MPD" marked on the bottom of the butt. I understand that the Memphis PD issued these at one time, so who knows perhaps its a lawman's gun? I fond of Army Specials. Growing up we had my g-g-grandfather's .32-20 in the house and that was the first pistol I ever fired. Beauty Material property Mascara Eye liner Cosmetics

I have several of these old warhorses. However, I don't think I've ever posted this one from 1921. It has a 5" bbl. & started out as a blued gun in a shipment of 50 to the "Met. Police Department" in Kansas City MO. The officer's name (E D Reedy) is engraved on the butt.

Best,
Charles

Here's mine chambered for the .38 Special - currently up for sale. Serial dates it to 1924. This was my Dad's first service sidearm when he joined the LAPD in 1946.
