Colt Box After Factory Work?

814 Views 17 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Redcat94
I have a 1976 Peacemaker Buntline that was reblued & recased by Colt to factory specifications in 1990. When it was returned, it was sent back to me in one of their 1986 anniversary pattern “Heritage of Colt Craftsmanship” boxes. Since the paperwork documents the date of that work, should I worry about hunting up a box from 1976?

That’s it. While it was not a “beater,” it had its fair share of holster wear and such on the the barrel, cylinder & grip straps, & such was brought to new life.
Imagine how busy Colt would be, if they offered this service now. Heck, I've got one or two I'd likely send back for them to re do.

When did they quit ?
I'm under the assumption, based mostly on comments around here, that they only work/repair modern guns and they don't refinish the older ones they don't make anymore. By modern, I was thinking something in the last few years for some reason and more along the lines of warranty repair, not refinishing. In this case, any of their .22s have been out of production for some time, so just assumed they wouldn't work on them anymore.
