Hi Folks - I am bored and figured I would share some photos of a gun that just came in. This is the Colt Classic Government model in 38 Super. Maybe it's just me being a Colt fan boy, but I think this finish is outstanding. I am super impressed. Why do I fall in love so easily? :)

It's already up for sale. I was going to hang on to it, but as a small dealer I can't. I won't be hard broken if it does not sell though.....especially since I paid over MSRP to get it.
The sooner a guy reaches the rational point of recognizing that he can't keep everything that comes across the counter and is interesting - the sooner he's on his way to the smoother money.

That said, even today, I had two opportunities to gauge cost against value on items and rolled my old decision-making axiom into them; "Will I be OK 'living with them' should it come to that?"

Well said sir..It has taken me awhile to learn a few lessons. Now I am pretty particular and rarely keep anything unless it is something that I would have a really hard time replacing. As an example, I picked up a Colt/TALO National Match Deluxe a week or so ago. I listed it on Gunbroker but pulled it down shortly afterwards as I am a sucker for royal blue and I really liked it. I probably overpaid for it, but it was something I had in the back of my mind to keep anyways. Hell, I have not had too many Colt's come by me that I have not admired at some level and would keep if I could...It's a daily struggle :)

It's a good looking gun for sure. Is it showing up in gun stores yet? I haven't seen one. I even wonder if folks around where I live even know what a .38 Super is. Most of 'em will see the familiar looking Government Model profile in the gun cases at the shops and think "Oh, another .45" and they'll move on to look at the next tacticool Wonder Nine, those pistols with beavertails any beaver would be proud to slap the water with.

The struggle comes in for me as need vs. want. As with other things in life, I've learned the hard way that I can't have every gun I want. There's a Colt I've been looking at for over a week now. No one else is gonna buy it. I actually went to sleep last night thinking, "I'll go buy that pistol tomorrow." But then in the bright light of day, I think of all the other things I need, and what would I do with the gun, anyway? I already have a tried and trusted EDC. I'm not a collector, per se. So the gun I want would end up getting cleaned, then put in a drawer in the dark with the others, and that'd be that.

I think you made a wise decision in putting the new .38 up for sale. There'll be something new come along in the next few days, maybe a week, that'll catch your eye. Don't forget to send us photos!

Yes sir...I am already contemplating bidding on a 1911 today with a manufacture date of 1913...I move on easy :)

I doubt they make it to the store. The 38 Super seems to be in high demand. I picked this one up when it briefly popped up on MidwayUSA. I am not sure how many they had but only lasted a few minutes. I have seen the classic model in 45 popping up lately. Must be their turn in the production rotation.

The Royal Blue is fantastic, of course, but the high-polish stainless gun is a knockout. And those stocks...they're the only ones in that style I've seen that I actually like.

One of these days, I'm gonna have some sort of outstanding Government Model, one that doesn't look like anybody else's. Just wait and see. I'm gonna call the Colt Custom Shop next week, and if they'll do what I want, I'll buy the pistol and send it off to 'em. And hope I get it back in less than a year.

Mike Poulin crafted both the walnut "Roper Style" stocks and the ivory on the Royal Blue National Match.
