It's a 1965 date of birth. The "LW" is for "Lightweight" and is supposed to be part of the serial number as a suffix...but that is often left off of sales records or state registrations as many don't know it's part of the serial number.
 
He is my 2020 Colt Cobra Retro
I really like that retro model. Colt just needs to do a run of them with a skinny, no ejector rod shrouded barrel.
 
Yes, sorry about your dad Wolf....my dad passed last year also and I inherited his 69 DS. It’s the well worn one (and will remain that way). I remember seeing his receipt and he paid $62 for it. I have the original grips in new condition because as soon as he got it, he added PACs. But after 50 years of carrying, they got pretty worn down, so I dressed it up with the medallion Pacs. A few years before he died my brother bought the 71 Cobra off a friend for $200 and gifted it to me. I added a BK adapter and along with my dad’s DS, is my constant companion...though not both at the same time.😉
