Colt \"D\" models

When did Colt start the trigger checkering on the "D" models, and when did they change to grooved triggers and hammers on this model?? Thanks.......

Re: Colt \"D\" models

This gets kind of confusing.
Way back then, they weren't called "D" frames. The "D" frame designation only came into being post-WWII.

As far as I know, the Detective Special of 1927 started off with checkered triggers, and I "think" ended with WWII.

When they returned after the war, I "think" they had grooved triggers, which lasted until about the 1972 shrouded barrel.

The early gun magazine write-ups on the new shrouded DS all showed them with grooved triggers, but production guns were shipped to the public with smooth.

Again, I'm not 100% sure about the time-line.

Thanks again...You're probably right..I have Bankers that are likewise and a 1941 DS that has a checkered trigger. I cannot tell if the Police Positives followed the same line mine go up to 1928 and all have smooth triggers. Thanks Again Steve B.
