Any help in identifying this pistol and value? It has Colt DA 41 on the barrel and the serial number on the grip is 21430 in two lines. The grips are aftermarket. It has a 3” barrel and nickel finish. The nickel is coming off some on the cylinder and when using double action the trigger does not return forward you have to push it

That appears to be an 1889 Colt Double Action (DA) revolver in caliber 41 Colt. The lack of locking lugs around the perimeter of the cylinder identify it as an 1889 model. If I remember correctly, there were about 30,000 of these made in 38/41 calibers. They evolved into the Model 1892, etc. They were also known as the "Army/Navy" model. If you open the cylinder and look on the frame yoke, there should be an assembly number stamped there. Above or below the assembly number you might find a capital "N" stamped. If so it would be considered to be a "Navy" model otherwise it would be the "Army" model. The trigger problem is likely due to a missing or broken spring or perhaps just some dried grease. There is a book about these guns by Robert Best that is considered to be the Bible for the DA guns. It will tell you everything you might want to know about them. Hope this helps.

The lockwork on these guns has a reputation for fragility, and few gunsmiths are willing to work on them. This guns would be a hard sell to most people, given the flaking finish and mechanical fault.

As above these were known as the Colt New Army & Navy models.

Here's some basic information....

In order to be worth much, these have to be in very good original condition and in correct working order.
Since these antiques are generally considered to be non-shootable display guns the value for one is based on what a buyer is willing to give for it.
