Three of them live around here. A re-blued beater "Army Model" in .32-20

A US Army Model of 1903 with an odd rear sight modification. The cylinder is bored straight through, but the barrel diameter is .357.

I was digging thru a box of "non-working" guns that I have allowed to build up over the last 10 years and came across this 1904 era "New Pocket" that I had totally forgotten about. It's in .32 and was "fitzed" (not a real Fitz Special) at some point in time, bobbed hammer, cut trigger guard and the barrel was shortened.... pull the trigger and the cylinder turns & locks up properly... but the hammer isn't moving, so I'll open it up and check the main spring. It worn, no finish, grips have chips... but I just like the look of it and wish it could talk.... and I can't believe I've let it sit neglected for so long. I've got another DA that I need to clean it up a bit and will post it as well. These aren't high dollar safe queens, but something I've really enjoyed re-discovering and playing with these last few days...

I originally posted this in the revolver section. Should have posted it here. An 1889 Navy upgraded to 1895 specifications. Colt upgraded the 1889's for about $7.00 each plus cost of any replaced parts. This one has a new barrel as shown by patent dates. Kept the wooden grips since later 1895 navy's frame was different. The grip on the 1889 was the same as the 1851 Navy.

I posted this in another thread and was informed this is the place to be . My Military Army Model collecting effort thus far . I don't know much about them so I hope someone can recommend a good reference book . Some of my trusted collector friends suggested I look into these for my Colt military revolver collection . Here we go , from the top : Army model 1892 - unaltered
Model 1896 - custom grips reading ; left , Dr. W.D. Preston U.S. Army ; right , Philippines 1900
Model 1901 - I believe this one is also unaltered and have a Springfield research letter coming on it .
Model 1903 - refurbished

I was thinking about getting theses inlays rewired . Any thoughts?

I've got to admit, they are very elegant looking revolvers. I've had one, it was armory marked and had a holster, but I traded it for a New Service which would be easier to find ammo for. Their polish was typically fantastic of Colts in that era. I like the cutouts on the trigger, not sure what their purpose was for. I would guess relief to let the trigger back/forward enough.

One of the changes made for the Model 1903 was to reduce the bore diameter to .357. .38 Special is just a .38 Long Colt longer. The government cylinder is bored straight though so chambering is not a problem. Ammo would be easy. For the older bore, hollow base wadcutters do fine. Even the Army had Frankford arsenal loading hollow base ammo near the end of its service use.

Picked up this Model 1892 DA .41 Colt this weekend. Made in 1893. Pretty good shape with some scattered finish loss and a little bit of rust speckling. Good chambers and just one spot of shallow pitting in the bore. Haven't seen grips like this with the Colt / Pony / 1892 before (but I haven't seen all that many pics from this vintage).

Posted before but not in this thread is my 3 inch 41 calibre revolver which, from a borrowed comment from a member here is "According to Robert Best's excellent reference, A Study of Colt's New Army and Navy Pattern Double Action Revolvers 1889 to 1908, you have one of the last of what he refers to as the Model of 1892 frame variation of the New Navy Civilian Model." Recently obtained an archives letter.

Here is another "transitional". It is a double stamped New Pocket/Pocket Positive with 2.5 inch barrel and marked FOR 32 S&W CTG. View attachment 754341 Assembly numbers match and maybe 90% finish remaining.

What is the cylinder diameter of your New Pocket? It is a nice looking gun.
I have a 3.5” barrel New Pocket chambered for .32 Long Colt. The cylinder diameter is 31.4mm and I am wondering if I can ream out the chambers to make it .32 S&W Long. My guess is that as long as the cylinder diameter is the same, then it could be done.
