I have been using the stock mags with the orange followers that came with my Defender and they work great but i would like to get additional mags. Is it ok to use mags like the Kimber ones with metal followers or should i look for some with the plastic/nylon followers?

Rocket, I suggest that you use the mags with the plastic or nylon followers. The reason is that I found a large gouge in the feed ramp on my Colt Defender that I suspect came from steel followers hitting the feed ramp, but I cannot be sure that is the cause. Plastic follower cannot gouge a metal feed ramp. The gouge made feeding of ammo unreliable until I had the feed ramp polished and it once again fed ammo reliably.

I am a fan of the Wilson Combat magazines.

I fail to see how a magazine follower is going to hit the ramp.
The Devel / McCormick Shooting Star followers have a tendency to tilt forward and hit the feed ramp, and as mentioned is only an issue with alloy frames.

Current Colt magazines have the Check-Mate patented follower which has a skirt in front and is an improvement over the original Devel type.

I have a 2002 Defender and once the orange Teflon? or whatever wore off the mag started to make a mark so I switched to Wilson or something else. Also have some of the new Colt mags which seem fine.

My first Defender had those type magazines and I believe they were Metalform. My second one had the Shooting Star type, and my brother's Defender has the Check-Mate type follower.
