What type stocks were offered on the Colt Detective Special .38 3rd Issue? I know that wrap-around walnut were prevalent, but did they ever come with rubber stocks with a silver Colt medallion? Thanks for your help.

This depends on what you consider to be a "Third Issue".
Most people call the 1993 to 1995 model to be a "Fourth Issue". Those came with Pachmayr Compac grips with gold medallions.

The Third Issue DS was made from 1973 to 1986. Those had the walnut Combat grips as standard, unless it was a special order.

The rubber Compac grips with silver medallions didn't appear until 1995. That was the first time Colt used Silver medallions on the Compac rubber grip and they were used on that years Colt Detective Special and the new SF-VI.

Any idea what year serial number RD358x was manufactured? Thanks.

That's a later serial that's not in the available data bases, nor does it show in the Colt web site data base. The Colt data base is apparently a work in progress and newer guns are not shown.
You can call Colt and they'll tell the year over the phone.
