I noticed that serial # 41421, a .44-40, was lot 1112 in the recent RIA sale #88 and was in the same shipment as your .44-40. These were in the first 125 etched barrel .44-40s made by Colt. On page 72 of "The Official Record", the shipment which included your .44-40 is discussed.

cascabel, yes, it’s mine. However, here’s my centerpiece…..

My on-going project is to replace the 1880’s vintage Kynoch cartridges with original 1870’s vintage Boxer 2-piece case cartridges, and also to add an original blued cleaning rod to the package.

Ouch! That is truly stellar. I have a weakness for the .450 SAAs and yours is the best blue 5 1/2" I've seen. That finish is outrageous, anyone who wants to know what an undisturbed early blued civilian SAA looks like should study this.
These 5 1/2" London shipped SAAs preceded the domestic shipped 5 1/2" .45s and .44-40s by at least 5 years and are the only 5 1/2" civilian SAAs with the donut ejector head, and the only ones produced in the 1870s, minor points, but still.

Well us Colt collectors dwell on minor points don’t we…..it helps keep us out of trouble😄. Anyway, yes, and so with a couple exceptions (according to Kopec Page 16 in the Study 30 Year Anniversary Edition), the only original 5-1/2” guns with the italic or script-style barrel address…..

Excellent point about the address and one that I had not previously considered although that's likely because my earliest 5 1/2" .450 has the London address.
Collecting historic guns is all about the details. The deeper I can dig into the minutia, the happier I am.
