If you are going to shoot the Colt with standard loads, be sure to get a new full power recoil spring or even a Wolff exta power spring for it, my '74 Gold Cup has the special lightened slide, yours may as well. You might want to use a Wilson shock buffer as well.
The recoil spring tunnel on the front of the slide contacts the spring guide at full recoil, the buffer prevents metal on metal contact and absorbs some of the shock.Doesn't the buffer go between the recoil spring guide and the recoil spring? Strange location to prevent "battering". The genius of the buffer is that it costs a cent of less to manufacture and sells for a dollar.
Where do you think the force that is creating that is coming from? Look at the front of the spring guide (the flange) and the back end of the spring tunnel on the slide.
