I recently purchased a King Cobra and a 1911 Classic, and I have to say I’m super impressed.

I feel like these are both heirloom quality that will last for generations.

In 2023, the quality is there. Thank you Colt for producing these, and thank you to the two Colt representatives that have helped me in this journey.

A nice pairing of two brand-new purchases which, not long ago, would have been impossible to acquire together - new.
A bit of a renaissance we're experiencing just now and you're taking advantage of it.
Never mind what the doom-sayers and perpetually curmudgeonish fellas say about what they are NOT - focus on what they are to you.

Shoot the bejeepers outa them!

I just wish they'd consider polishing the 1911s even a LITTLE!

Oy vey! You can still see the grain from the raw steel.

The build tolerances of today are definitely better due to CNC machines and whatnot, but the finishes are nowhere near where they used to be.

I have the same cobra - purchased in the last year - love it with .357 in it, but it's not fond of .38; they seem to drop to 7 O-Clock when the .357 are always dead on. I'd be interested to know if you find the same thing -- or if it's operator issues with me!

Interesting! I haven’t seen that with mine, in single action the King Cobra is by far my most accurate gun.

I’m just glad I can shoot 357 out of this thing without too much pain. My last 357 was a 14oz S&W Airweight, would make my hand bleed.

I'm not a crappy shooter then!! YEAH! I don't know what it is, but .38 don't shoot well out of it, but it's a really good .357 shooter. I've shot some where your hand/wrist takes a beating and the concussion of the round causes sinus pain!! Not with this gun.

A lot of folk feel Colt's 'phoned it in' with the grip but I think they're brilliant. When I went to sell mine, the buyer wouldn't take the factory rubber but loved the pretty wood I had on it. I told him how wonderfully the rubber shot and carried but he wasn't having it.... even for FREE!

Weird.

Perhaps a couple-few various makes of .38 to test that?

Agreed, although I wish Colt sold a few variations of wood grips with a Pony\Colt medallion enlay. I would probably tough it out, and go with the wood.

True. I recall having Colts in the past with WONDERFUL carry grips of beautifully checkered and medalioned wood while still being understated. One Detective Special in particular.

Theres a lot to be said for finding the right ammo. This target was 5 rounds shot with a Remington 700 stainless 5R at 100 yds on a really gusting day. The center was a sight in with green tips. Clockwise from top left, Hornady, Norma and Remington. The Remington ammo clearly proved best. One of them must have gone through the same hole caause I caant find 5 separate holes.

I might get virtually smacked around for this post, but i just got one of the 1911 Classic's in 45 yesterday, It is up on Gunbroker with a starting bid of $800 if anyone wants to steal one of these, now is a good time. You can find me on Gunbroker searching for dhcarms. Not trying to take over the thread with a sales pitch, I don't have a problem selling Colt's. Just thought I would mention a great deal to my fellow Colt lovers.
