Colt Lawman - Rough Condition Worthwhile?

2041 Views 22 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  smkummer
Gentlemen -

I have the opportunity to buy a Lawman III for $390 that is in rough condition bluing-wise...looks to be holster wear on mostly one side (poor pic attached). Gun supposedly is tight and in good working condition. Just wondering of any opinions on price and since just a Lawman and not a snake, would a re-bluing be considered...thanks! Mike R

Q: When you draw it under stressful circumstances, does bluing really matter? It's a carry gun, right?

Go for it...!!

Re-blue it too...I would if it bothered me.

Life is short...enjoy it

Mainly will be carrying as back-up when hunting big woods....bluing won't matter I guess, but I know it matters to the value so I'm just wondering if $390 is a decent price based on condition...

Answer this, what else are you going to find for under 400 bucks that compares? I would offer 350 and would pay the 390 and be on my way as long as functionality is intact.

It's a definite buy...but use it's finish issues to counter-offer at $350. The worst that can happen is the seller says no but might come down to $375. If the finish really bothers you and you want to refinish, get it hard chromed. For a backup woods gun hard chroming will wear much better. Just a suggestion.

This is what I did to an old, beat up Trooper... Parkerizing is quick, cheap and hides minor blemishes, and it also adds a good dose of attitude.

I would buy it. I already have that gun. It’s priced appropriately for it’s condition. Shoot it and have fun without worry of devalue.

What a bunch of enablers......lol. Of course I’ll jump right in and agree with the opinion of buying if it functions as it should.

Parkerizing is a great choice. Robar, or CeraKote, or whatever will protect it from further rusting in carrying. If the seller mentions the new Cobra as a price reference, ask him about the original box, papers and uh....the warranty!
I've seen worse for more money. Jump on it, or at least let us know where it is....

This one is rough, finish wise, carried by a Atlanta P.D. Detective for 25 yrs. It is brand new inside, what's on the outside doesn't always equate to the inside and how well the gun will operate, most will have never seen enough shooting use to be a concern,Lawman III's are tanks.

Grips are hard to find so if those are in decent shape they have good value. I've got a couple stashed away in case of hard times. Buy it quick or it will be gone.

Thanks for all the input guys...ended up getting for $375. The cylinder bluing is really the only issue (looks to be from holster wear) but rest of gun is decent and seems all original....now I have to decide whether to re-blue or not. I would never consider it for one of the snake guns, but a Lawman in sub 90% condition will never have a big $ collector value...will it??
Why re-blue it? if your going to use it as a carry shooter. You could purchase a nice blue or E nickel for $700 or a little more not worth spending the extra $$$ on a re-finish.
Leave it as it and use it. Here is my longer nose lawman.....
