I was at a friends house today when I noticed a framed handgun with pictures of Billy the kid and Pat Garret. The Firearm is a Colt I believe to be a Model 1878 DA in .41 LC
with serial # 1374XX on the bottom of the frame - it has grips that are very faded and worn. Unk what they are made of. But it is not wood or bone !

Does anybody have a listing of COLT FIREARM SERIAL NUMBERS

It is probably between 20-35 %

Colt 1878 serial numbers only go to a little over 51,000. It could be an 1877 Thunderer they look alot alike but the 1877 is a smaller frame than the 1878. Billy the kid carried an 1877 in 38 caliber(lightning). 1374xx for the 1877 would be 1902

I think you saw an 1877 Thunderer. Supposedly Billy the Kid used one at some time in his short life. The 1878 was not chambered in ,41 Long Colt.

There were only 308 Colt 1878 revolvers made in this caliber and none fall into the serial number range you mention. So, it is indeed most likely a 1877 DA "Thunderer".

That could be I can't see the top of the barrel or the right side - so I was just guessing at the model - I suggested to the person who has it to remove it from the shadow box frame - it has a photograph of Pat Garret and Billy the Kid - But I can't say that they are originals - probably reproductions ! Thanks for the info !

Per Pat Garret's book, Billy carried the .41 Auto Cocker (Thunderer) when he was killed in 1881.
