Here is a nice little Colt New police “Cop and Thug” The archives letter shows it being shipped to the SF PD in 1890. I’m guessing these were purchased by law enforcement for a back up gun or possibility issued to higher ranking officers. Anyone have any info on how these were used by PD’s please chime in ....

Cop and Thug was just a marketing name. While there may have been some police use, as you might expect they were mainly a pocket pistol. Of course, the gun does not have the original barrel. Interesting gun, nonetheless. It was shipped to Colt’s San Francisco Agency for retail sale.

All sweet Colts from the wrong side of the bay !
What is the specifics on .44CLMR ?
Could 26 cash by a lightning buy that .

Always thought cop&thug was killer piece , I found I even saw a grip I’d drop 40 in a heartbeat. My understanding is named for grips and not an official model name .

Either way , that .38 has slapped more than one thug .
Nice stuff farm ( and GRI ) , thanks both for sharing Colts that have been on my list for a while .
